Educational and Career Ventures:

Cheung pursued her musical aspirations with determination, graduating from the URC School of Music with a concentration in composition at the age of 21. Even early in her career, she displayed entrepreneurial spirit by founding the Mozart School of Music, aiming to enhance job prospects for her peers. However, her journey took unexpected turns as she ventured into real estate, co-founding Peak Performance Investments and later Alture Properties, establishing herself as a prominent figure in the real estate industry.

Wendy's journey is one of resilience, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit. Her childhood experiences as an immigrant shaped her drive to succeed and give back to her community. Despite facing challenges, Wendy pursued her love for music with unwavering determination, eventually establishing herself as a successful composer, educator, and businesswoman.

Wendy's childhood was marked by resilience and a deep connection to music. Born in Hong Kong, she immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of three, fleeing the aftermath of the Vietnam War. Settling in Vancouver, her parents faced the challenges of starting anew in a foreign country, working tirelessly to provide for Wendy and her siblings, Winnie and Peter.

At the age of five, Wendy underwent a significant operation, spending months in the Children's Hospital with a cast on her arm. This period of isolation and discomfort became a turning point in her life when her mother, recognizing the need to strengthen Wendy's fingers, enrolled her in piano lessons. Under the tutelage of Angela Kwan and later Eliza Ip, Wendy's passion for music blossomed. She devoted countless hours to mastering the piano, often playing late into the night, much to her parents' concern.

As she entered her teenage years, Wendy's musical aspirations expanded. Inspired by the pop stars she idolized on television, she began to dream of becoming a songwriter herself. Her ability to effortlessly craft melodies led her to believe in her own potential as a composer. Determined to make her mark in the music industry, Wendy set her sights on writing for Hong Kong's pop elite.

Her dedication paid off when, at the age of 18, she was offered a songwriting contract with Universal Music. Additionally, her talent was recognized when she received the 1st Runner Up award at the Fairchild Chinese Canadian Songwriting Quest. These accomplishments solidified Wendy's commitment to a future immersed in music, where she would continue to pursue her dreams with unwavering passion and determination.

The Awakening:

Despite her success in real estate, Cheung felt a void in her life, realizing that her true passion lay in music. A pivotal moment came when she attended a piano recital and was deeply moved by the performer's story, prompting her to embark on a journey to fulfill her childhood dreams.

Pursuing Music:

Cheung took a leap of faith, flying to Hong Kong with determination to make her mark in the music industry. Through serendipitous encounters and sheer perseverance, she found herself immersed in the vibrant music scene of Hong Kong, producing albums, collaborating with renowned artists, and even having her songs top the charts across Asia.

Return to Roots:

After three years of intense involvement in the music industry, Cheung returned to Vancouver, reflecting on her experiences and realizing the importance of self-growth and authenticity. She channeled her passion for music into large-scale projects, including serving as a music director for theatrical productions.

Balancing Act:

Back in British Columbia, Cheung found a harmonious balance between her musical pursuits, real estate endeavors, and family life. She authored a book sharing her experiences and insights, with proceeds supporting scholarships for students at Capilano University. Her latest venture involves marketing a luxurious property in Las Vegas, showcasing her versatility and entrepreneurial acumen.

Educating Young People

In addition to her music career, Wendy demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit by founding the Mozart School of Music and later venturing into real estate investment. Despite her success in business, music remained at the core of Wendy's identity, driving her to establish Live a B Life Ltd, an entertainment company focused on producing films, scores, and performances in Hong Kong and Vancouver.

Giving Back, Wendy and the community

One of Wendy's philanthropic goals is to address childhood hunger by establishing a program that provides free lunches to underprivileged children in schools. Recognizing the importance of nutrition in education, Wendy aims to ensure that all children have access to a healthy meal, regardless of their financial circumstances.

In addition to addressing basic needs, Wendy is committed to nurturing the arts in her community. Her legacy project involves the construction of an auditorium where musicians can perform regularly. Through a rental subsidy program, Wendy aims to make the auditorium accessible to a wide range of performers, further fostering a vibrant arts community.

Furthermore, Wendy established the Wendy Yau Sum Cheung Music Fund in 2018 to support students pursuing composition studies at Capilano University. This scholarship fund not only provides financial assistance but also encourages young musicians to pursue their passions and contribute to the cultural landscape.

In 2019, Wendy took her philanthropic efforts a step further by writing a book titled "Create Your Life's Masterpiece," with 100% of the proceeds donated to her scholarship fund. Through this initiative, Wendy not only shares her insights and experiences but also continues to invest in the future of aspiring musicians.
